Livin loud

Ohhh it felt good to be back at some live events again these last few months. There is nothing like the combination of being cheering at the top of your lungs, sardined around hundreds of strangers to enjoy some high quality, human performances.

DRAMA @ SUTRO Stage – OSL 2021

The first show back ended up being the lucky score of a free ticket to the first day of Outside Lands, San Francisco’s 3-day all-around music festival. The last time I got to go I actually had a gig working the event, which is a big difference from being a fan, so it was a real treat considering the event also happened to fall on Halloween weekend. The event always delivers good tunes, but the people watching was taken to another level thanks to the holiday. SF really loves their costume game and Outside Lands (OSL) did not disappoint; Pirates, brides, umpires, squids, fuzzy critters and a surprising amount of Scooby-Doo’s mystery gang. The costumes took a bit of the shock off of being back in big crowds, and even with a costume theme, there were certainly not that many masks on. The rona was not something I spent a lot of time worrying about for a good time outdoors. Best shows I saw ranked: DRAMA, KAYTRANADA, and Yung Bae. Above is a great clip of Via Rosa asking us all to participate in little exercise.

The tunes were good there. They were also good down at the Santa Barbara bowl. Got to see Khruangbin again, thats three times for me now. They’re so good live, their performances are a primo example of just keepin it simple. Awesome vibes, no rants or theatrics, great lights, epic solos and of course, fire fits all around. Khru holds the lead for bands I’ve seen play the most, unless I count the dynamic duo of Bangus Tron. The high of 3 stands to be tied early next year when I catch Flight Facilities again. Let’s go to another show – looking forward to many more!
